Every year, we get together as a company to take part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Mind, a charity we have close ties with.

Mind is an incredible mental health charity that we’ve worked with on numerous occasions. One in four people will experience mental health problems at some point in their lives. Mind work tirelessly to provide support and information for those people and their friends and families, signposting and supporting several resources, tools, facilities and other organisations.

One in four people will struggle with their mental health at some point in their lives, and as a community, it’s so important for us to do what we can do to help support those people, whether that’s at work, in our personal lives, or in wider society. That’s why it’s so important for us to support charities like Mind in any way we can.

So far, sponsorship for the walk has raised an incredible £2,205 for Mind – surpassing our original fundraising target and making all those aching legs and sore feet more than worth it.

This year, we got together on the 27th July to tackle the 27.5km between Bingley and Leeds in one day. Starting at 8:30 in the morning, we set off from Bingley train station and headed out across the sprawling fields of Yorkshire.

The first leg of our walk took us along the banks of the River Aire and canals, past landmarks like the Seven Arches Aqueduct and through the picturesque Hirst Wood before a short refreshment break at the Salt Mills in Saltaire.

After a warm drink and breakfast, the team set off on the longest, and toughest leg of our journey, travelling from Saltaire along the canal to Calverly. Before our lunch stop, we all built up a healthy appetite climbing a particularly steep hill, making the Calverly Arms the perfectly placed stop.

The second half of our walk was split into two parts. The first journey was 4.1km and then, after a quick refreshment stop, we completed the final 2.6km to our last stop in Kirkstall. The entire journey with stops took us until around 5:00pm.

While the walk took a lot of energy and could be tough going at times, we were driven on in the knowledge that each step was helping to raise money for Mind.

Not only did we manage to exceed our fundraising target, but we also had a great opportunity to build stronger relationships within our team.

Like many businesses, we have people who work remotely all over the country. The charity walk brought people from our London and Leeds offices, as well as our remote workers, together, which has gave us a chance get to know one another better and work together to support such an important cause at the same time.

Now, it’s time for us to catch our breath before we start planning next year’s walk!
