Innovation in Education Leads to Positive Outcomes at EAN 2023

July 4, 2023 |

The Medscape team recently returned from the 9th Annual Congress of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) in Budapest, Hungary. Among the various highlights of the congress, the team showcased two posters in the field of multiple sclerosis (MS) and related disorders, emphasizing the significant role of innovation in education in achieving positive outcomes. These posters shed light on how advancing education design can effectively engage clinicians and lead to notable improvements.

Christy Rohani-Montez, Medscape Director of Clinical Strategy and an expert in the field, presented the first poster, which focused on Virtual Patient Simulation. This innovative and award winning approach demonstrated how it enhanced clinician performance in distinguishing the severity of MS and making more comprehensive therapy choices. The second poster explored the impact of incorporating animation into case-based education, which significantly improved clinician knowledge and competence in implementing disease-modifying therapies.

Adding Animation to Case-Based MS Education Improves Neurologists’ Knowledge of DMT MoA and Competence in Implementation

“Finding novel ways to engage clinicians and provide them with fresh avenues for learning is a top priority for Medscape,” expressed Christy. “We are continually seeking to innovate and elevate medical education to new heights while highlighting the outcomes of our work. The programs featured in our EAN posters are just two examples of the tremendous impact our education initiatives have on neurologists. By actively participating in these educational opportunities, clinicians not only expand their knowledge and competence but also enhance their performance, resulting in better outcomes for patients worldwide.”

Beyond the congress center, Medscape’s activities extended to an offsite networking event held at the Aria Hotel Budapest by LHC. Esteemed attendees and faculty of the congress congregated at The Pavilion, where they enjoyed light refreshments and engaged in conversations, offering a welcome respite from the busy conference schedule. This event provided an ideal environment for networking and sharing the latest advancements in neurology and neurology education. The event successfully attracted numerous participants from across Europe, including Medscape faculty member Dr. Eugen Trinka, an esteemed Professor and Chair at the Department of Neurology and Head of the Neuroscience Institute at Christian Doppler University Hospital Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience, Paracelsus Medical University.

Reflecting on the success of EAN, Christy Rohani-Montez shared, “EAN was a tremendous success, and we were thrilled to reunite with our neurology colleagues, faculty and supporters at this exceptional congress. We look forward to next year’s event, where we can continue our efforts to advance the field.”
