eHealth set to benefit from EC’s ‘single digital market’

Says will help European industry, researchers and public authorities

digital pharmaThe European Commission has set out plans for a Digital Single Market that it says will help European industry, researchers and public authorities make the most of new technologies.

It will see a European cloud set up to give researchers and science and technology professionals a virtual environment to store, manage, analyse and re-use a large amount of research data.

This will be followed by measures for the development of common standards in priority areas, such as 5G communication networks or cybersecurity, and to modernise public services.

Elzbieta Bienkowska, the EC‘s commissioner for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs, said: “The digital economy merges with the real economy. We need leadership and investment in digital technologies in areas like advanced manufacturing, smart energy, automated driving or e-health.”
