NIHR to pilot ResearchKit app

Will look at how mobile technology can aid clinical research

The UK’s National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network is investigating how mobile technology can aid clinical research processes.

Partnering with digital firm Tigerspike, the NIHR’s pilot programme will see them build a ResearchKit-based iPhone app for medical researchers.

They hope the app will streamline research and allow the collection of “robust and meaningful data” by making it easier for participants to enrol in studies.

Alex Burke, Group CEO at Tigerspike, said: “Through the use of mobile applications, medical researchers will have the power to recruit more participants much quicker, providing more precise data and more accurate insights than ever before.

“Ultimately, this will provide unprecedented opportunities for patients to gain earlier access to better and new treatments, and we’re looking forward to being a part of this revolution as we look to continue this initiative with the NIHR CRN.”
