World Cancer Day – uniting the global cancer community
World Cancer Day is held each year on 4 February. It is an initiative to bring people together to help reduce the global cancer burden and promote greater equity in cancer care. Marking this year’s World Cancer Day, the article on page 16 focuses on closing the gaps in cancer care to give more patients access to life-changing medicines.
In Danny Buckland’s article on page 24, A new age of innovation in healthcare, he looks at the long-term potential of approaching healthcare challenges and opportunities with a new creative spirit that goes way beyond technical reach.
The article explores how the patient voice, and delivering compelling public and medical engagement campaigns, are critical ways in which industry and healthcare can make the best of opportunities created by the pandemic, from chatbot technology and faster-paced regulatory processes to improving in-person connections between healthcare providers and patients.
Also in this issue, the article, Life sciences reimagined – reassessing future healthcare priorities, looks at the strong need for new care models as escalating cost and resourcing pressures threaten safe access to healthcare for all, and how data lies at the heart of many of the solutions. Read more on page 18.
Looking ahead, our March issue will focus on congresses – the real experience vs virtual convenience.
Despite content now being more specifically designed for a digital environment, and surveys showing that HCPs appreciate the benefits of virtual congresses and the flexibility they offer to fit around HCPs’ busy schedules, a high number of HCPs still prefer to attend in person.
