Moderna has appointed Piyali Mukherjee as Head of Medical Affairs, Europe and Middle East. She will be based in Switzerland and will report to Francesca Ceddia, Chief Medical Affairs Officer, who commented: “Piyali brings strong scientific expertise, a collaborative leadership style and a deep commitment to patients and public health.”

Mukherjee brings more than 25 years of global leadership experience in vaccines, public health and Medical Affairs. She most recently served as Vice President, Medical Affairs for Asia Pacific at Moderna, where she led the region with a strong focus on advancing adult vaccination and supporting COVID-19 vaccine policy discussions. Prior to joining Moderna in August 2024, she led GSK’s Global Medical Affairs Vaccines organisation, where she oversaw major global launches and large scientific and medical teams.

Chantal Friebertshäuser, Senior Vice President Europe and Middle East at Moderna, said: “Piyali’s leadership and extensive global experience in vaccines will be a tremendous asset as we continue to strengthen our impact for patients and healthcare systems across Europe and the Middle East.”

Mukherjee said: “It is a privilege to contribute to advancing mRNA science in ways that support public health priorities across a broad range of diseases. I look forward to working closely with my new colleagues and the wider healthcare ecosystem to help strengthen prevention and treatment approaches, generate meaningful evidence and support informed decision-making across healthcare systems.”
