Celgene has named Gerald F. Masoudi as its executive VP, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective from June 1.
Masoudi succeeds Lawrence V. Stein, who is to retire after holding the role since 2012. He will be responsible for global legal strategy and will additionally serve on the company’s executive committee.
Robert J. Hugin, chairman and CEO of Celgene, commented: “Larry Stein has served as a valued member of Celgene’s senior leadership team and provided the company important strategic legal counsel.
“Jerry brings a wealth of experience to Celgene. His deep understanding of regulatory policy and his significant healthcare-related legal expertise will add valuable perspective to our leadership team.”
Masoudi joins Celgene from international law firm Covington & Burling, where he is a partner and serves as co-chair of the food and drug practice group. At the company, he has advised multinational companies and trade associations on litigation, enforcement regulatory and public policy matters.
Prior to joining Covington, Masoudi served as chief counsel of the US FDA.
