IQVIA launches new online patient portal

Seeks to improve clinical trial experience

IQVIA

Contract research and technology solutions group IQVIA has launched its own Patient Portal to help increase clinical trial participant engagement and retention.

The new offering aims to address one of the biggest problems in clinical trials, with studies showing the average dropout rate across all clinical trials is around 30%.

The global web-based solution is built on the Salesforce Health Cloud Platform – a cloud-based, patient relationship management solution. The IQVIA Patient Portal focuses on increasing clinical trial patient recruitment, engagement and retention by ensuring transparency and collaboration at all stages of the clinical trial process.

Clinical trial participants are invited to join the IQVIA Patient Portal at the moment of recruitment. When they are enrolled, they are then guided through the trial process with study visit and medication reminders, disease education and logistical aid with concierge and travel support services.

Patients using the platform will also have access to the individual lab results from their participation and other information relating to the study, as approved by the sponsor and investigator.

“Patient communities are clear about what matters most to them – roughly 90% want access to information about their participation in the study including updates about the outcome of a study,” said Cynthia Verst, president of design and delivery innovation, research and development solutions at IQVIA.

When the trial is completed, patients also receive a plain language summary of the study via the Patient Portal and have the chance to join an alumni community where they can continue to engage with clinical research through potential future trial opportunities.

Last year, IQVIA launched a content management solution to support the life science industry with regulated content. ePromo, also a cloud-based solution, serves organisations across its content cycle of creation, approval, dissemination and withdrawal.
