PMEA returned on 21 November at the Sheraton Grand in London to recognise excellence within pharmaceutical marketing.
The Awards evening, back for its 24th year, began with a networking event, welcoming of hundreds of guests dressed in smart evening wear who were eager to discover who the 2024 PMEA winners were.
The PMEA programme rewards work that delivers clearly identifiable benefits and improved outcomes for patients, as well as societal value, in global, regional and local markets.
This year’s Awards included 17 categories, up from 14 in 2023, with PMEA Company of the Year now split into small/medium companies and large companies. A new category recognising Excellence in Low- and Middle-Income Countries was also added.
Stand-up comedian Angela Barnes took to the stage after a formal dinner and was joined by this year’s chair, Stephanie Hall, founder and chief executive officer of Uptake.
Taking home the first award of the evening, Excellence in Engaging and Educating Patient, was ‘An Outbreak of Optimism: Raising Atopic Dermatitis Patients’ Hope for the Future’ by Sanofi and Regeneron, with support from Havas Lynx. The judges described the programme as a “well-planned and tailored long-term approach to support a huge drug launch” and noted that its results “demonstrated statistical significance and were hard to ignore”.
Excellence in Low- and Middle-Income Countries was won by ‘Roche-Government Cote d’Ivoire Partnership’ by Roche, which the judges said had “extremely impressive public/private partnership and a clear needs assessment, conducted with stakeholders across government, non-governmental organisations, healthcare professionals and international partnership”.
The highly competitive Support Agency of the Year Award went to Possible. The panel said: “The [agency is] small and clearly focused, recently founded and with a strong growth trajectory delivering quality work and innovation.”
The final award of the evening, PMEA Company of the Year, was given to Amgen, which had a strong presence at this year’s Awards, having already taken the top spot in two categories. The judges were impressed by the company’s leadership team and recognised that it had “invested in marketing skills and customer closeness, adopting a strong cross-functional approach in engagement”.
An evening of dancing and networking followed, marking the conclusion of another successful PMEA.
