Mental health has been at the centre of our business since our inception. But that work doesn’t just extend to our client projects.

At Mednet, we know that a supportive and mentally healthy workplace is essential for our employees to thrive.

That’s why we’ve focused on creating an award-winning mental health initiative that creates a culture where wellbeing is a priority.

What is our internal mental health initiative?

Our mental health strategy is structured around six key influences on workplace mental health and wellbeing:

  • Job/work design: Creating clarity, sustainability, flexibility, and control in roles.
  • Promotion of protective factors: All managers undertake regular leadership training, and we offer revised and enhanced benefits. We also have fully trained mental health first aiders.
  • Early intervention: Promoting mental health policies, employee assistance programs, and peer support. Our Mindful Employer Plus benefits, including 24-hour telephone helpline support this.
  • Support for recovery from illness: Supervisor support, return-to-work programs, flexible work arrangements, buddy systems and a partnership with Mind.
  • Building resilience: Stress management training, coaching, mentoring, physical activity programs, and encouragement of self-care are all available through our Mindful Employer benefits. We also provide access to personalised wellbeing action plans for every employee.
  • Increased awareness: Mental health literacy training for all employees through regular lunch and learns, specific training for managers, and participation in awareness programs.

We also run monthly get-togethers for the team, offering a chance to:

  • Connect: Providing opportunities for employees to socialise through meals out, quizzes and internal social media activity.
  • Be active: Encouraging physical and group activities, such as our annual charity walk, helps people connect.
  • Take notice: Promoting self-awareness and being present with access to wellbeing action plans and regular lunch and learns.
  • Keep learning: Providing professional learning and development opportunities and casual social learning opportunities.
  • Give back: Offering opportunities to contribute to a worthy cause through partnerships with a range of charities and individual fundraising events.

The real-world impact

The results of ensuring our team feel supported in their mental wellbeing speak for themselves.

  • Around half of our employees have a Bradford Score of 0
  • Enhanced employee engagement
  • A feeling of connection within the team
  • High job satisfaction
  • Improved work-life balance

Additionally, we’ve worked with 15 people referred by Mind’s Workplace Leeds scheme, providing mentoring and training so that they’re able to find permanent employment either with us or elsewhere.

Our strategy is unique for its integration of diversity, inclusion, and innovation within our mental health initiatives. Our ongoing, regular events and activities align with best practices in workplace mental health and actively promote better wellbeing in the workplace.

By working together on our internal strategies, we’re continuing our commitment to better mental health awareness and sharing that learning and experience with our clients through Making Health Whole™.
