IBD Oxford MasterClass 2016 harnesses the chemistry between science and clinical practice

Leading Edge, part of the Lucid Group, delivered another successful Oxford MasterClass this year, which attracted over 260 delegates and 60 international inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) faculty, representing Europe, Asia, Australasia and North America. Scientific exchange resounded within the walls of the Oxford University Examination School as the hat trick of meetings took place from 17 to 21 September.

The Oxford MasterClass is known for bringing together the latest basic science, clinical practice and public health issues in IBD, and 2016 did not disappoint. The Very Early Onset IBD MasterClass, chaired by Professor Holm Uhlig, led delegates through the sensitive balance between host and microbiota and the implications for how monogenetic disorders in the very young drive treatment decisions in adults with IBD.

Professor Simon Travis led the Early IBD Oxford MasterClass, reviewing cutting-edge research to highlight the importance of understanding the pathogenesis of early IBD to optimise treatments, how advanced therapies are improving patient outcomes and the growing interest in personalised medicine.

A unique endoscopy programme was led by Dr James East who, together with the faculty, guided the delegates through interactive cases and videos to highlight the implementation of chromoendoscopy, the importance of IBD surveillance and the critical parameters to consider when using IBD scoring systems.

Leading Edge Programme Director, Andrea Hamlin, said “The Oxford MasterClass provides an incredible learning experience for all involved; delegates, faculty and over 16 sponsor companies ensure this meeting provides high-calibre scientific exchange that adds value academically and translates into advancing the care of patients with IBD.”

The date for the 2017 Oxford MasterClass is secured and we hope you will join us in Oxford to be part of this prestigious meeting.
