Lucid Learning and Development

Julianne Tate, Head of Learning and Development at Lucid Group, discusses the new programmes and tools that she has been busy developing and rolling out throughout the Group — Elevating employee experience as well as complementing the agile working policy adopted throughout the Group.

If last year is anything to go by then 2020 is going to be big — big projects, big excitement, and big on being busy! My role often means wearing many hats. One of the most rewarding parts of last year was wearing my Lucid hat and working within Lucid Group.

They really are an incredible bunch of talented, passionate, off-the-scale IQ, creative and sometimes idiosyncratic (in only the best ways) crew. ‘Pioneering’ and ‘humanistic’ are standard descriptions of their approach to work and teams are unified by an incredibly strong drive to improve health outcomes for patients.

I don’t mind admitting that at first, I thought delivering a ‘pure’ learning and development role might be run of the mill and one I would do with my eyes shut, given my twenty years of broader HR experience… but more fool me, what a year it turned out to be!

My role is little more than a year old and while there are bundles of outstanding technical content, mainly created and managed locally, there has been huge energy on creating and delivering centralised content in-house.

There is an incredible range of development initiatives designed to support on-the-job, socially led and formal education-based learning. My role sees me working with grads straight from their Masters or PhD, experienced medical writers, editors, scientific directors and seasoned account managers. Lucid takes a blended approach to L&D by providing employees with a suite of top-class development interventions to support every stage of their Lucid life and in turn create magic for their clients.

No wonder I’ve been busy – some of our 70%, 20% and 10% approach already includes:

- PMLiVE- PMLiVE

As if that’s not enough, Lucid recently introduced Lucid Ladder whereby every colleague has the opportunity to select their own development rungs and create a personalised ladder of growth, technical expertise or wellbeing. I’d love to take all the credit, but it was a collective effort, dreamt up at our summer meeting to ensure everyone has the dedicated development time to climb the ladder most important to them.

- PMLiVE

So what does 2020 hold? I imagine a bit more buzz and busyness!

I dare say I’ll continue coaching at midnight to allow for time zones, and weekends to allow for confidentiality but I wouldn’t have it any other way. With so much magic around me I’m also looking forward to embracing wider creativity and developing new grey matter pioneering their technical academies.

As Lucid continues to grow bring even more incredibly talented colleagues into the business they will be adding to their suite of interventions, formalising Centres of Excellence and increasing the development offer.

My colleagues in Lucid recruitment have plenty of new and exciting opportunities in the pipeline so I imagine I’ll be holding my Lucid L&D Induction slot more frequently too. Whilst they’re busy up-skilling, nurturing and supporting their amazing talent, their teams are busy creating magic for their clients and ultimately improving health outcomes for patients. It’s been a busy period at the end of a busy year and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
