February 15, 2024 | Education, Leadership, Medscape, Women in healthcare
We’re referring to the renowned women leaders from across the healthcare landscape who were our guests on Season 1 of Medscape Education’s Hear From Her podcast series. The conversations touched on all aspects of women’s healthcare, including the (urgent) need for gender equity and diversity in the C-suite, and as lead researchers in clinical trials.
This groundbreaking series was recently honored with a gold at the 2024 AVA digital awards. If you missed any of the episodes, you can easily access them via Medscape, Apple, or Spotify .
Starting on 6th March, Season 2 of the series will resume the the conversation, exploring further the issues women face both in the medical field and as patients, as well as achievements and how we as a community can continue to advance women in medicine.
Want a sampling of what’s to come? Dr. Ophira Ginsburg and Dr. Verna Vanderpuye, co-chairs of “Women, Power, and Cancer: A Lancet Commission,” talk about why the commission was set up, the report’s key findings and calls to action. Dr. Ginsburg, a medical oncologist and global women’s health researcher who joined the National Institutes of Health in 2022, tells listeners about the great career advice she received while finishing up her medical training and how she leveraged it to get hired as director of a clinical cancer genetics program for her first job! My first thought, she says, was “That’s crazy, but I love it!”
Sarah Jarvis, MBE, general practitioner, writer, and resident doctor on BBC Radio 2, talks about her memorable childhood experience giving injections to her dolls with a real syringe and needle (given to her by the visiting GP who cared for her father—both situations being unthinkable today!) and how she was inspired to become a GP.
Lorna Warwick, CEO of The Lymphoma Coalition, and Anne-Marie Baird, president of Lung Cancer Europe, both recognized for their extraordinary leadership in patient advocacy, touch on health literacy: how people learn in different ways and the importance of getting patients information that they can process and understand.
The podcasts, hosted by several of Medscape Education’s own accomplished women in healthcare, all say they are empowered and inspired after leading the conversations. We’re sure you will be too, so keep an eye out for the start of Season 2 of this groundbreaking series!
