Medscape Education presented seven scientific posters at this year’s American Diabetes Association (ADA) conference in Orlando, Florida. These posters highlighted the outcomes of Medscape Education’s continuing medical education programs, which are designed to disseminate and educate on the latest data and advances in the treatment and care of patients living with diabetes, with the goal of facilitating better patient outcomes.
The posters, presented from June 22 to June 24, covered Medscape Education programs on topics related to the management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, including screening/staging type 1 diabetes, utilizing continuous glucose monitoring, and weight management. The programs utilized different educational approaches such as patient simulation and clinician surveys to assess clinical care gaps.
One of the posters was a late-breaking presentation focused on the ‘Assessment of Clinical Practice Gaps Resulting in Clinical Inertia When Managing Type 2 Diabetes.’ The results were based on data from a CME-accredited survey with the purpose of self-reflection and real-time practice gap analysis in those treating type 2 diabetes based on their clinical knowledge and competence. This assessment yielded important insights into gaps related to type 2 diabetes treatment intensification that can be woven into future education as a strategy to reduce clinical inertia and it was the first component of a larger initiative aimed at improving treatment intensification among primary care providers. The overall initiative’s impact on primary care providers and patient outcomes will be measured with longitudinal knowledge, competence and performance assessments, and finally a real-world outcomes analysis of claims data for learners of the curriculum, which will be reported later in 2024 or early 2025.

“We are thrilled with the posters accepted at this year’s ADA conference. At Medscape Education, we publish over 100 posters, peer-reviewed articles, and abstracts every year. This is a testament to our continued commitment to developing and delivering education with impact; education that makes a meaningful difference in our members and the patients they care for. We are proud of the outcomes achieved in these programs that will positively affect clinical practice and ultimately patient care,” said Amy Larkin, PharmD, Senior Director, Clinical Strategy at Medscape Education.
