Medscape Women’s Health is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) 2025 Gala, which took place on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, celebrating 35 Years of Transforming Women’s Health Research. This support underscores Medscape’s dedication to advancing women’s health and addressing critical health disparities faced by women globally through education.
Since its founding, SWHR has been the national thought leader dedicated to advancing women’s health and promoting research on sex differences to optimize women’s health across the lifespan. By advocating for the inclusion of women’s health issues in medical research and education, SWHR aims to improve health outcomes for women across various demographics. This year’s gala will celebrate accomplishments in women’s health research, honor leaders who have significantly advanced women’s health throughout their careers, and serve as a platform to raise awareness and funds for vital initiatives, bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates committed to women’s health.
SWHR plays a crucial role as a founding member of Medscape’s Innovations in Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC), collaborating with leading organizations to advance initiatives that elevate women’s health through the development of education for clinicians, patients, and caregivers. Coalition members include esteemed organizations such as the American Medical Association, the March of Dimes, and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, all dedicated to closing gaps in women’s health Recently, the IWHC announced its expansion to address women’s health issues on an international scale, welcoming global organizations to join its mission.
Haleh Kadkhoda, MS, CHCP, Founding Member and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Division of Public Health for Medscape Education, emphasized the importance of this expansion: “Much work remains to address women’s health needs. Building upon the success of the IWHC’s educational efforts in the United States and expanding to inform clinicians globally supports women around the world. Education impacts public health, and through this expansion, we will be able to reach more of our 13 million worldwide HCP members with the information they need to better care for and help their patients.”
Despite incredible advances in medicine in recent years, there remain gaps in care for women across the United States. According to a report from McKinsey, even though women live longer on average, they also spend 25% more time in poor health than men.[1] Barriers to optimal and equitable care of women include clinician shortages, lack of an integrated care team, patient delays in seeking care because of their own caregiving obligations, time constraints, access to local care, inadequate clinical guidelines, socioeconomic issues associated with healthcare, and negative encounters with the healthcare system are among some of the barriers to optimal and equitable care of women.
The IWHC Learning Center on Medscape Education offers free, accredited education and resources to all women’s healthcare team members.
Through its sponsorship of the SWHR Gala and its ongoing commitment to women’s health education, Medscape Education continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the health and well-being of women worldwide.
