ESMO is the leading professional organisation for medical oncology. With more than 25,000 members representing oncology professionals from over 160 countries worldwide, ESMO is the society of reference for oncology education and information, making it one of the most important congresses for Medscape Oncology to have a presence.
Ahead of ESMO, the Medscape oncology team met with the general director of Gustave Roussy, Fabrice Barlesi and several heads of departments and specialists at this important institute in Paris. Gustave Roussy is the leading cancer centre in Europe; ranked #6 world’s best oncology hospital (2022) according to Newsweek magazine and the first one outside the United States. The institute treats patients with all types of cancer at any age and is expert in the treatment of rare and complex tumours. During the meeting, discussions focused on how Medscape Oncology and Gustave Roussy could further collaborate to advance outcomes in oncology through education at a local, regional and global level.
During the course of the conference, we were lucky enough to connect with hundreds of members of the oncology care team in our booth and share how Medscape can help to further their knowledge of important topics. We were also able to reach many physicians during our 2 educational symposia, which shared information on antibody drug conjugates for NSCLC and explored outcomes in patients with high-risk HR+/HER2- EBC.
On 11th September, the Medscape team came together at the Eiffel Tower for an exciting event attended by expert faculty, patient advocates and more than a hundred supporters of our oncology education programmes. The discussion panel consisted of world-renowned experts, including WebMD CMO John Whyte MD, Nadia Harbeck, MD, PhD, Lesley Fallowfield, DBE, BSc, DPhil, FMedSci and Steve Clarke, patient advocate and campaigns ambassador, Cancer Research UK, volunteer patient voice, Bowel Cancer UK, and founder of Strive for Five. The discussions focused on the perceived gaps in patient centricity from physician and patient perspectives and considered what improvements are needed to further advance oncology outcomes. Steve Dunn, Oncology Team Lead and Executive Director commented, “Our event at the Eiffel Tower has provoked much interest in the need for focused education that provides the right skills for physicians and the care team to effectively communicate and collaborate with their patients to help them make the best decisions about their future care together. The Medscape platform can provide the necessary reach and expertise to fulfill this unmet need and advance oncology outcomes through evidence-based patient-centric education. There are exciting times ahead.”
The event itself was filmed and will soon be shared together with an article highlighting the most salient points. Stay tuned!
