Recognizing C diff Awareness Month in 2024

Every year, the medical community recognizes the month of November as Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) Awareness month. C. diff is a public health threat that causes around 500,000 infections every year, leading to diarrhea and colitis in patients who become infected. C. diff Awareness Month is meant to raise awareness for patients and clinicians on the risk factors, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of this debilitating disease. All month long, resources such as fact sheets, patient experiences, and more are made available and promoted by leaders in infectious disease and public health.

The Peggy Lillis Foundation is among those leaders, working to advocate and educate on C diff to work toward a world where the infection is treatable and survivable. Since 2023, Medscape has partnered with the Peggy Lillis Foundation to create education that keeps clinicians on the cutting-edge of C diff prevention and treatment. As part of this partnership, Medscape recognizes C diff Awareness Month through social media and other engagements.  

Medscape’s 2023 C diff awareness campaign saw over 1.4 million engagements on social media, including for a livestreamed education event featuring experts from the Peggy Lillis Foundation. The overall campaign featured insights from clinicians and leaders in C diff advocacy, videos with updated information, and facts that could be easily shared on and off social media. Videos on C diff, posted on Medscape’s social media accounts, were viewed more than 10,000 times.
