Removal of repetition; usually associated with databases or research samples. Generally only one unique example of data is necessary on storage media, such as disk or tape. Redundant data is replaced with a director to the unique data copy. Deduping is often associated with the term Record linkage (RL) which refers to the method of finding entries that refer to the same material across different data sources.
