Boehringer/ Lilly launch online diabetes management game

Pharma companies aim to raise awareness of type 2 diabetes complications

Boehringer Lilly diabetes gameBoehringer Ingelheim and Lilly have stepped up their joint efforts to raise awareness of diabetes, launching the new educational game Complications Combat.

It aims to educated patients, physicians and the public about the management challenges of type 2 diabetes and its associated complications. It is available in a desktop and a free iPad version.

Boehringer’s Arnd Prilipp said: “The aim and design of the game is simple. However, effective management of type 2 diabetes and its complications is not.

“To simulate this, players are tasked with simultaneously saving the healthy lifestyle items whilst combating the many complications – and it is not easy.”

Complications Combat is designed to raise awareness of the diabetes-related complications, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems and foot ulcers.

Players have to click or swipe images of complications and ‘friends’, which are the healthy steps for managing the condition, to the correct side of the screen to maintain optimal patient health for as long as possible.

Complications Combat follows on from the two pharma companies use of behavioural change theory and a niche education programme about SGLT inhibitors.
