Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)

The US trade group which represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, providing advocacy for public policies that encourage the research and development of new medicines.

The PhRMA’s stated intention is to provide:
Broad patient access to safe and effective medicines through a free market, without price controls,
Strong intellectual property incentives, and
Transparent, efficient, regulation and a free flow of information to patients.

In 2009, PhRMA members invested an estimated $45.8 billion (28.0208015 billion British pounds) in discovering and developing new medicines. Industry-wide research and investment reached a record $65.3 billion (39.9510554 billion British pounds) in 2009.
