Statistical significance

The probability that an event or difference occurred by chance alone. In clinical trials, the level of statistical significance depends on the number of participants studied and the observations made, as well as the magnitude of differences observed.

In the medicine Statistical significance is commonly used to test drugs and vaccines and to evaluate elements of disease. Statistical significance is also used in psychology, environmental biology, and other areas that directs research via experimentation.
