Spanish pharmaceutical industry body Farmaindustria has selected Pfizer Spain’s president and CEO Elvira Sanz to serve as its new president.
She will serve a two-year term and replaces Ferrer Grupo CEO Jordi Rementol, who took office in 2010.
Sanz has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for nearly 25 years, holding increasingly senior roles at Abelló, MSD, Roche and Cyanamid.
She became directorate general at Wyeth Spain in 2000 and was named president and CEO of Pfizer Spain in 2009.
Sanz takes up her new role at Farmaindustria at a time of increasing difficulties for the Spanish pharma industry, which has been hit hard by a series of government cost-containment measures and unpaid bills.
