Global medical communications agency BOLDSCIENCE has hired healthcare and oncology communications strategist Kristin Ludwig as Senior Vice President (SVP) to lead a new specialty division dedicated to patient advocacy and engagement. The new division, BOLDADVOCACY, will empower progress and elevate patients’ voices throughout the course of clinical development and delivery of innovative medicines. 

As the long-time Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for ASCO and recent VP of Global Communication and Patient Affairs for a start-up biotech, Ludwig brings over 30 years’ experience in the medical PR, patient advocacy, public education, and physician engagement space.

Much of Ludwig’s career has centered around informing and empowering people living with cancer. She led the creation of Cancer.Net, ASCO’s award-winning patient information website which educates on 120 cancer types and serves over 47 million visitors a year from around the globe. She developed a series of in-demand print and digital patient education materials for hospital and community resource centers. Furthermore, Kristin has led dozens of nationally recognized public awareness campaigns, and helped organize patient townhalls to address access and equity issues. Over the years, Ludwig has devised a range of initiatives both for, and with, patients advocates and has earned long-standing, trusted relationships with leaders across the patient advocacy community.

Ludwig has an impressive track-record of leading new divisions to success. She established ASCO’s first Communications Department and grew it over time to include media/PR, patient advocacy and education, corporate affairs, and marketing. Her steady leadership and contributions were critical to the growth, impact, and reputation of the Association. In addition, during her tenure, the ASCO Annual Meeting became the leading “must attend” conference for the oncology community.

BOLDADVOCACY will be the second of several specialty divisions this forward-thinking agency has planned for the near future. Led by Ludwig, the BOLDADVOCACY team comprises scientific specialists and client service professionals, and is supported by BOLDSCIENCE’s high-powered creative and digital teams. Services will include strategic patient engagement planning, patient advisory boards, web and digital products, and patient education materials, among others. The team will work across corporate and non-profit enterprises to seamlessly support clients across all functions and throughout the product lifecycle.
