Louise Jones, Cuttsy+Cuttsy’s Sustainability Officer reflects on their latest year of carbon reporting through CDP and on achieving another B rating.

Yes, we’ve been awarded another B rating from Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)! This is the second-highest rating available from CDP (which monitors environmental impact and risk management) and shows that we have been able to maintain our commitment to sustainability for the past 12 months, resulting in us being rewarded with another top rating!
The past year has been particularly momentous for us; we achieved net zero in both Scopes 1 and 2 (you’ll find more about the scope definitions here), which means we have just Scope 3 to conquer. Scope 3, which encompasses emissions resulting from the entire value chain, represents our last barrier to becoming a net zero company. And while achieving true net zero may be a challenge given the current technological landscape, our commitment is unwavering. We’re absolutely determined to get as close to zero as humanly possible!
Disclosing our progress through CDP is a crucial part of our bigger sustainability strategy, and with two years of experience under our belts, we’re embracing new changes in CDP’s submission structure as we head into 2024.
We’ve definitely encountered some roadblocks along the way. The main one being the complexity and time needed to accurately carbon report.
But there is light – after attending the CDP conference last year, we were given the welcome news of the questionnaire’s re-design, which hugely simplifies the reporting process. Firstly, by improving user-friendliness, and secondly (which is likely to be a very significant and far-reaching change), the merging of the climate, forestry, and water questionnaires. This promises to not only streamline the reporting process but for the likes of yours truly who is tasked with annual reporting, brings huge relief!
These changes are also likely to be big drivers in getting get more companies to participate in the scheme and disclose the details of their sustainability efforts. Because an accurate measurement of everyone’s impact is, after all, the only way to achieve true and effective global change. And CDP are clearly showing their commitment to this critical goal.
As we navigate through these improvements and challenges, Cuttsy+Cuttsy remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability. And we look forward to making even greater strides in the coming years. Here’s to another year of progress and collective efforts towards a sustainable future.
