Getting in-sync with Public Health at SYNC 2024

- PMLiVE

Medscape Education is bringing its public health efforts to Washington, DC for the SYNC conference on HIV, HCV, STIs, Harm Reduction, and LGBTQ health. During the conference, Lindsey will present a poster on the impact of Medscape’s video series addressing barriers to treatment as prevention in HIV care, and present on a panel discussion regarding the use of virtual patient simulation to increase individualizing sexual healthcare during the STI Track Session 2. In addition to presenting the impact of education, Medscape is a Connector-level sponsor of the conference, further demonstrating our commitment to Public Health education.

Presenter Lindsey Gardner said, “It is promising to see improvements in primary care providers’ understanding of barriers to HIV care and their ability to individualize sexual healthcare. Despite these advancements, persistent gaps remain that need to be addressed to further enhance patient outcomes and public health.

The presentation during the panel discussion on May 30 at 2:15 PM, will explore a virtual patient simulation platform for enhancing learners’ clinical skills in sexual health screening and individualized therapy. Two cases—a heterosexual woman assigned female at birth with vaginal pain and a homosexual man assigned male at birth recently diagnosed with HIV—were presented to clinician learners. Significant improvements were observed post-simulation, indicating enhanced abilities in patient assessment and tailored treatment interventions. VPS offers an immersive, practical learning environment, improving evidence-based decision-making for sexual health screening and therapy application.
