Highlighting the Power of Patient-Integration

December 2, 2024 |

- PMLiVE

Advancing person-centered care is an important topic for the Medscape Oncology team, and no one knows this better than Dr Victoria Harvey-Jones, Associate Director of Clinical Strategy for Medscape Oncology Global and leader of our Patient Integration initiative. Victoria has led the way for Medscape, traveling throughout Europe and the UK this year to speak at multiple patient-integration meetings and sharing  Medscape’s efforts to advance person-centered care through a comprehensive approach to education for HCPs that also integrates the patient’s lived experience.

In December 2024, Victoria will be bringing her important work to San Diego for the annual ASH meeting. As part of this, she will be presenting a poster on the positive impact of Medscape Oncology’s education on BTK inhibitors for chronic lymphocytic leukemia and mantle cell lymphoma. The poster was developed through collaboration with the patient advocacy group, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Five of Medscape’s symposia have been developed in collaboration with patient advocacy groups highlighting the increasing need to integrate lived experiences and the patient voice into medical education programming. This approach ensures a more holistic and impactful framework for content development. Two symposia feature patient advocates from the Lymphoma Coalition in DLBCL (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma) and FL (follicular lymphoma) as part of the faculty panel, while an advocate from the Cancer Support Community will be present on a third symposia discussing ALL (acute lymphoblastic lymphoma). Two additional symposia have been developed in partnership with the CLL Society and the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation.

“We were really honored to work with many patient advocacy groups on these important educational initiatives. Person-centered care can be transformative for both patients and clinicians, and we’re going to continue to work together to develop patient-integrated education that can help it become the standard in oncology and hematology care,” said Dr Harvey-Jones.

Medscape will release an updated white paper on the importance of person-centered care and the power of patient-integrated education in 2025.
