The DH (UK) is in overall charge of the NHS with a cabinet minister reporting as Secretary of State for Health to the Prime Minister. The department has control of England’s 10 Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs). It is also responsible for government policy in English health and social care matters along with a few elements of the same matters which are not otherwise devolved to the Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish governments.
