A managed care organisation that limits coverage payments to predefined (‘in-panel’) providers. Subscribers who go to non-PPO providers receive less coverage. PPOs are organized by groups of hospitals, physicians, independent brokers, self-insured employers, commercial insurance companies, or by a health service corporation.
