A Commitment to Elevating Patient Engagement and Integration

April 23, 2025 |

Medscape is honored to be the lead sponsor of the upcoming Measuring Patient Engagement Summit, taking place in Boston from April 29 to May 1. This event marks a pivotal moment to transform the dialogue around patient engagement and patient-centric healthcare into tangible outcomes.

Why Patient Integration Matters

Patient integration in healthcare is not a novel concept. For over a decade, healthcare researchers and practitioners have recognized its fundamental importance. Hibbard and Greene’s seminal 2013 study published in Health Affairs demonstrated that patients who actively participated in their care experienced 21% lower healthcare costs while reporting higher satisfaction levels (Hibbard & Greene, 2013).

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has long advocated for structured approaches to patient engagement, documenting how healthcare organizations implementing comprehensive patient integration strategies show significant improvements in quality metrics and patient outcomes (AHRQ, 2020). Similarly, Bombard et al.’s systematic review (2018) confirmed that patient engagement initiatives consistently associate with enhanced patient experience, improved health outcomes, and more efficient resource utilization.

“Patients who were more actively involved in their healthcare experienced 21% lower costs than those with lower engagement levels.” – Hibbard & Greene, Health Affairs (2013)

Medscape’s Role and Initiatives

At Medscape, we are deeply committed to advancing patient engagement and integration. We believe in the transformative power of education, providing patients with the necessary tools to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. As part of our ongoing efforts to drive patient integration, Medscape is proud to participate in and sponsor the Measuring Patient Engagement Summit.

Highlight of the Conference: Medscape’s ConnectedCare

A key feature of the conference will be Medscape’s exclusive session on ConnectedCare, our unique aligned patient and healthcare provider (HCP) education solution. ConnectedCare is a unique approach that enhances clinician-patient activation through integrated education. Our goal is to empower both patients and their treating clinicians, ensuring a coordinated, mutually informed, fast-tracked healthcare journey.

What’s changing now isn’t the importance of patient integration—which has been well-established—but rather our ability to effectively implement it. With the advent of ConnectedCare and patient integrated education, we can now truly power meaningful activation for both patients and their treating clinicians in ways previously impossible—bridging longstanding gaps in healthcare delivery.

Victoria Harvey-Jones, Medscape’s Worldwide Patient Integration Lead, shares her enthusiasm: “ConnectedCare is revolutionizing the way education influences healthcare outcomes. During our session, we will explore how aligned education not only improves care but also enhances the patient journey and HCP experience. We are excited to share our insights and discuss the innovative methods we are employing to boost patient engagement.”

Join Us for Transformative Discussions

We invite all attendees to join us for what promises to be a series of enlightening conversations at our booth and during our session. For more details on Medscape’s initiatives in patient integration and engagement, please reach out to Victoria Harvey-Jones at vharveyjones@webmd.net.
