Advancing the Frontier of Cancer Care: Medscape’s Mission at ESMO 2026

October 5, 2026 |

For more than 30 years, Medscape Education’s dedication has been centered on a single goal: building independent, accredited oncology education that improves patient outcomes. This year, at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO 2026), that commitment will be on full display. Our presence reflects a long-standing view that oncology remains one of the most urgent, highest-impact specialties in medicine and deserves education built to match.

This article outlines Medscape’s focus for the congress and its ongoing work to address identified educational gaps in oncology care.

Closing the Gap in Precision Oncology: Our Strategic Priority

Precision oncology is the frontline of individualized patient care. However, while scientific progress in novel targets and tumor-agnostic therapies is moving at a breakneck pace, the gap in precision oncology—the challenge of interpreting complex data at the point of care, remains a hurdle for many healthcare professionals.

One of our missions at ESMO 2026 is to bridge this gap by providing clinicians with unbiased, comprehensive, practical education through PIONEER, our Precision Oncology Learning Center. We aim to translate complex data into clinical delivery, ensuring that every precision oncology treatment approach reaches the patient who needs it most.

Driving Dialogue and Discovery at ESMO 2026

Medscape’s presence at ESMO is intended to facilitate discussion of emerging evidence, clinician learning needs, and educational approaches in oncology.

  • Demo the PIONEER Learning Center at Booth #8072: A cross-disciplinary space for exploration and expert-led discussion where attendees can view a live demo of the learning center on screen. Advised by a steering committee of global leaders, this learning center offers structured resources designed to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and clinical execution. This booth demonstration is not accredited.
  • Attend 3 Scientific Symposia: Medscape will host independently developed sessions across the congress, providing comprehensive, cross-functional, data- and case-driven education where live (and virtual) attendees can engage with the latest evidence in a way that informs their daily practice. Consult the individual session listings for objectives, faculty, and credit availability.
  • View 3 Scientific Posters: At this year’s congress, Medscape will showcase data-driven insights into clinician knowledge gaps and educational efficacy to advance patient care. Highlighted presentations include studies evaluating online continuing medical education in HER2-targeted therapies for gastric/gastroesophageal junction  cancers, multidisciplinary knowledge and confidence in first-line immunotherapies for squamous cell anal carcinoma , and a multitumor assessment of oncologists’ clinical application of emerging LAG-3-targeted therapies.

Our commitment is steadfast: to support oncology specialists throughout their clinical journey whether they are translating complex data at the bench, synthesizing new evidence for the bedside, or engaging in collaborative dialogue that shapes the future of cancer care.

The Impact of Medscape’s Oncology Education

At the heart of our work is a relentless focus on improving patient outcomes. Every metric we track is a proxy for improved care. See our impact in oncology education since 2025:

  • 253,180 oncology healthcare professionals reached globally
  • 543,070 oncology learners engaged across our oncology programs, with advanced-level outcomes assessed using our proprietary Linked Learner Assessment methodology
  • 92% of learners would recommend these activities to others; 93% say the content learned from these activities will impact their practice
  • 52% improvement in knowledge/competence and 32% increase in learner confidence following advanced-outcomes programming
  • An estimated more than 16 million patient visits impacted every month by Medscape’s oncology education, a reminder that every learner reached is connected to real patients downstream

This impact forms the foundation of what we want to achieve at ESMO 2026, continuing  an evidence-based mission refined over 3 decades—now enhanced by AI tools to better serve the oncology community.

Oncology is a rapidly evolving field where clinicians make critical, life-altering decisions daily. At ESMO 2026, we are dedicated to supporting those decisions through our symposia and learning center, providing the rigorous, unbiased education that oncology professionals rely on.

We look forward to seeing you there.
