UEMS represents national associations of medical specialists in the European Union and its associated countries. Historically the UEMS covers the basic principles of training of European medical specialists, harmonising specialist trainings and criteria for their recognition, and improving quality of specialist medical care. UEMS has a number of bodies and objectives such as defending the status of medical specialists and ensuring their proper training.
