The NLA is a privately owned limited company set up by various newspaper publishers which issues copyright licenses for companies who wish to use newspaper content, and acts as an agent for its members when royalties are collecte.
The NLA distributes over £22m per annum to national and regional newspapers in respect of copyright works. In 2009 the NLA licensed over 1000m copies of newspaper cuttings from more than 1,400 titles and collected licence fees from over 8300 licensees (representing over 150,000 organisations).
